Day off

Today is going so well.

Seriously though, the only reason I left my bed was because I wanted to wash my bed sheets.

But it’s raining and sad outside. All I want to do is hide under my covers so the thunder doesn’t give me an anxiety attack.

Life has been going well for me.

I have recently taken up running! I’m not sure if thats what it looks like I’m doing when people see me, but I’m trying. I’m getting better at it. I’ve sort of fallen for it, like I have a crush on running. We’ve gone out a few times, possibly even going steady.

But if I’ve learned anything this past year it is that I can’t be afraid of starting something new if its going to benefit my wellbeing.

I’ve also changed my diet habits as well. I’m still vegetarian, but I’ve become more conscious of what is actually in my food.

I definitely am cooking a ton more. (Although I’m still a sucker for a green pepper, mushroom, and onion pizza from Dominos).

I wanted to share with you guys my hummus recipe (Its more so from the book Strong Looks Better Naked but I adjust it to my liking). It’s quick, simple, and so much better than store bought.

What you will need/do:

  1. 1 Can of chick peas / garbanzo beans (they’re the exact same thing so don’t stress)
  2. 1/3 cup of tahini (basically it’s sesame that is liquified) (find it near the pasta sauces or the cultural food isle)
  3. 3 tablespoons of olive oil
  4. lemon and salt to your tasting

Then you can throw it in the food processor. I just use a potato masher though.

I’m really enjoying this whole new lifestyle I’ve been living. I’ve been doing it for a little over a month.

I’ve also cut out soda, which I never thought I would do. Dr. Pepper and I broke up. H2O and I are new Bff’s.

So I also wanted to share some of my tips for living a healthier lifestyle.

I know I’m a beginner but here is what has helped me:

  1. Buy a water bottle you love and keep it full of water all day. (Seriously I have a 20oz water bottle and I refill it 6 times a day. I pick up my water bottle more than my phone nowadays)
  2. Find a workout you enjoy, or can learn to love. I can’t say I love running, but I love how it makes me feel.
  3. Get good shoes.
  4. Read the book, Strong Looks Better Naked  by Khloe Kardashian. Some of you may instantly roll your eyes because of the “Kardashian name” But it’s a good book, I’ve read it two-three times.
  5. Always have hummus in your fridge. It goes good with any vegetable you prefer.
  6. Don’t keep food that is your downfall in your house. i.e. Cookies, chips,  or bagels.
  7. Know that you are going to have weak moments. The fact that Panera Bread delivers to my house is not cool, because sometimes I can’t help myself.
  8. Learn the difference between being stern with yourself and being hard on yourself. If the Panera delivery guy shows up at your door every now and then too, you can’t beat yourself up about it.
  9. Water. Drink it.

GUYS! GUYS! GUYS!

First of all, I don’t know if you can see but I finally got my little icon thing to show my photo. Since I started this blog it wouldn’t load a photo, but it did today! Hooray!

On October 1st I blogged about how it was National vegetarian day/month. And as exciting as that day it, more importantly it is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Get those mammograms, ladies. No matter how small your boobs are, they’re yours so take care of them

I know I am only 20 and I don’t “have” to get a mammogram for a while, but I still do self exams. Our local news reminds us to do so on every 13th of the month. It’s important. I never realized how important it was to give yourself a little check until my mom found a stupid mole and found out she had skin cancer. (no worries she’s fine)

Seriously though, its important, check for bumps, moles, random bruising, look for anything that makes you go “hmmm”.

For mole checks remember the ABCDE’s A-Asymetry, B-Border, C-Color D-Diameter, E-Evoloving.

I’m no doctor though, just someone that values you, and your boobs.

Today is WORLD VEGETARIAN DAY!!!!!!!!

The holiday season has officially started!

So in honor of the best holiday ever I decided I’d share a few of my favorite vegetarian things or things that I love! Even if you’re not an herbivore like me, these items are awesome and I recommend that you try them many of them aren’t even edible, they’re just associated with the veghead world!

I’ll go in an order from 15 – 1 and 1 will be my favorite!

15. prod_img-1333896 The roasted Garlic & Quinoa is my favorite.

Question, how do you pronounce “quinoa” I pronounce it as “keen-wah” but I’ve heard some people say “ka-no-ah” maybe its a state to state thing.

14. 80242_b_loveisintheair 80242_p_loveisintheair_web This is actually a vegan nail polish brand, which I just think awesome! This particular color is called “Love is in the air” I love this color, I also really love “Sage” which is a brown color. They are reasonably priced I think as well. SpaRituals

13. An awesome thing about being vegetarian is we get free guacamole at Chipotle! Sorry carnivores, you lose on that one, having to pay extra and what not. (Or you could just get a non-meat burrito or something and I bet they wouldn’t charge you.

12. The Gourmet Veggie Club at Jimmy Johns. I get it on french bread though, whole wheat with the avocado spread is just too mushy for me.

10. Cafepress has a lot of cute bumper stickers if thats your kinda thing. I like this one. How cute is he?!

9. Faux Leather Jackets – I love faux leather jackets, ya know, the jacket that makes you feel like you need to wear red lipstick, heels, and drive off in either a Ferrari or Harley Davidson Motorcycle. This one is from forever 21 and is $21 … I see what they did there.

8. The Fettuccine Alfredo with broccoli at Olive Garden, and their breadsticks, Oh, and their salad. I usually get the buy one take one from olive garden. So good.

7. Not having to wait for the annoying meat to be cooked through enough. ’nuff said.

6. Kat Von D is officially cruelty free (many companies are now) and has awesome vegan makeup options! How cool is that?!?!?!

5. One of my favorite things is that I don’t miss having a microwave! I haven’t had to use a microwave in probably 6 months. I probably wouldn’t even know how to use it now.

4. Aveda! Go read my last post or maybe the post before that if you want to learn more about Aveda. Some of the products do contain honey or beeswax so I can’t say that Aveda is 100% vegan.

3. I sleep better. I’m positive that since I’ve become vegetarian I have slept better. I haven’t had a bad nights sleep in well over a year.

  1. And Last but First in my heart I love that I never feel bad about what I eat. My lettuce never had a heartbeat, and I just feel better knowing that I don’t have to take the life of living creature in order to live.

I hope you guys had  lovely October 1! And enjoyed the day regardless of if you celebrated one of the best days of the year.

Also Its Breast Cancer Awareness Month so ladies and gentlemen (yes men can get it too) make sure to check yourself, it doesn’t take long and it is very important. It literally could be a life or death situation.

I also wanted to take a moment and express my sadness for the shooting that happened in Oregon today. I don’t know when kids are going to stop thinking its okay to shoot up a school just because they’re mad.

Obama said today “our thoughts and prayers are no longer enough” as much as I am going to pray, and as much as my heart broke when I found out about Oregon, it isn’t enough. I just hope America can come up with a solution for safety soon. We shouldn’t have to live in fear of our fellow Americans.

Go buy a few bags. Once you try it you can’t stop eating it. I think they put some addictive substance in it. (Kidding)
