Let talk hair…

It’s something I love and I don’t talk about it on here enough.

So first off there are many types of extensions. Theres tape-in, fusion, micro-link, sew-in, halo, and clip-ins.

I can’t tell you which one is best, because it depends on each individual person. It depends on your lifestyle, your needs, your willingness for maintenance.

Me? I’m a die hard fan for the clip-in extensions. I like the low maintenance, and practicality of the clip-ins. I think I curl my extensions once, maybe twice goodbye.

So if anyone wants to know my opinion on certain clip-in brands stay tuned.

Side note: I haven’t tried all these brands so I asked for my friends opinions when they tried them. I trust their opinion.

BELLAMI Hair Extensions: Rating: 4/10

For any of you that are familiar with extensions, you probably have heard of BELLAMI Hair Extensions. Every girl on Youtube rants and raves about them. From behind the camera lens they also looked beautiful to me too. Then two of my friends ordered them and it was a mess.

Now, my friends are professionals in the cosmetology industry just like me. They know how to properly take care of extensions, they take care of them. They did everything they were supposed to, and it was still a mess.

One friend had hers on in normal weather conditions and they tangled so badly she had to throw them away in two months. (Now, yes, she was at a picnic outside, and maybe the wind blew a few times) However, I don’t think being outside should make any difference. After all, it was 100% human hair, and does that happen to your actual hair? No, it doesn’t. Even in slightly windy conditions, you can still brush your hair afterwards. I saw them for myself and it was bad.

My other friend, had hers come and they felt like they were straw. I felt them myself, it was like hay. Again, 100% human hair… brand new $200+ extensions shouldn’t do that.

So, personally I wouldn’t buy them. They are not all they’re cracked up to be. However if you still are intrigued and want to buy them if you use the code “Jaclyn” you can get $5 off. This is Jaclyn Hill’s discount code. She is the best when it comes to makeup. She knows what she’s doing. I trust she gave an honest review about hair extensions, I’m sure she did get good quality ones. Maybe its just the luck of the draw for quality when it comes to BELLAMI.

SKR Hair: Rating: 10/10

So you want the good news or the bad news first?

Bad news it is.

Their website got hacked in January and no shipments have been received or gone out since then. Hence why I didn’t attach the hyperlink. My friend ordered some a few months back, and they’ve yet to show up.

Good news? These extensions lasted me 6 years, and they are the most amazing brand, I would’ve totally purchased them again in a heartbeat. They were great. I don’t know if they’re officially out of business, or if they’re still trying to be… unhacked? Dehacked? I don’t know the correct term.

I would buy again, I just don’t know if I’ll be able to.

Sally Beauty Hair Extensions: Rating: 6/10

You want a middle of the road, not too expensive, brand? Then march on over to Sally Beauty’s and get yourself a pack of the extensions. They’re a medium/low quality hair extension that will last you a good six months. I’ve heard mixed reviews from everybody. Three years ago, they were awful. I’ve heard they’ve stepped their game up. If you check out their website you’ll read mixed reviews. Thats exactly how I feel as well… mixed.

Luxy Hair Extensions: Rating: TBD

I just recently ordered these extensions. I will receive them in the mail tomorrow. All I can say so far is that their customer service is great. I will let you guys know how I feel about the extensions in a few weeks.

That’s all I got guys. I really hope I’ll be able to give you a good and worth your money brand to try soon. I hope Luxy is amazing. Because currently the hair extensions world is not doing well.

28 Days

28 Days… Thats how many days I have left until I graduate!

Remember when we started this whole relationship? I had only signed up to go to cosmetology school, and had months to go until I actually even STARTED. But, here I am.

I searched for “finish line quotes” on Pinterest and all that showed up were running motivational quotes. So, we’re just going to go with the flow and pretend that this is for cosmetology.

Really though, lets all take a second to look back on where we were 10.5 months ago… Okay now that, that cringe worthy, embarrassing second is over with, lets move on.

I hope you are a better you than you were 10.5 months ago, I hope you like yourself more, have learned more about yourself, have accomplished something that betters you, and have grown as a human being.

As happy as I am in my life right now, I need to start thinking about the future. Lately the future makes me scared. I feel like change just scares me to no end, and I need to grown up and deal with life like an adult. Suck it up, Selina.

Also, don’t forget to tell the ones that matter to you, that they matter to you. Sometimes life gets in the way of life and we forget that none of us get out of here alive, and then before ya know it, someone you love is not physically there anymore. So tell them you love them, and that they matter to you, and that this world shines a little brighter because they exist on it.

Oh, wait! April is Earth month for Aveda, which makes me happy, because my God made this Earth, I think he did a marvelous job, and we need to take care of it. So reduce, reuse, and recycle!

I hope you guys are all doing well, I know there was no point to this post, but hey, there is no point to this whole blog, so whatever.

Confessions of a Cosmetologist

I have a problem. I know I do. I can openly admit it.

Normally I’d apologize for it but I will not. I chose to be a cosmetologist and therefore I am forever justified when it comes to buying hair, makeup, skincare, and nail products.

I mean I wouldn’t want to have you go out and buy a product without knowing if it was worth the buy or not. Its a service to you in all actuality.

I went to the Chicago hair show this weekend. I am forever obsessed and I can’t wait to go back again next year.

I also attended the Stylist Choice Awards where I got a whole bag of FULL SIZE free products, yeah, you read me right, FULL SIZE:

The three gray boxes are colors for hair coloring.

I just wanted to show you guys all the good stuff I received this weekend! If you have any questions about the products feel free to ask below!

I love you!

I hope you all are well and had a great Thanksgiving. I’ve missed you dearly, but school is exhausting lately and most days I miss my bed more, (don’t we all?)

I came on here to ask you guys a question. Am I the only one who has a million different passions in life? I don’t even understand it, I have so many different interests, and I want to do them all! But, do you know how expensive it would be to have a degree in every single thing that I want to be a professional at? Roughly the about of money the Kardashians make in a month, so, like, $10,000,000.

Why can’t I be that kid that has one passion in life and only wants to focus on that? Why couldn’t I just like computers, or just want to be a nurse?

Instead I get to be interested in; cosmetology, teaching, anatomy, science, paleontology, religion, politics, history, taking care of the elderly, genetics, philosophy, and writing. Just to name a few…

I really love school, and I am really excited to become a cosmetologist.

Its just, I don’t know if that’s the only thing I want to be.

A few months ago I decided that once I’m done with cosmetology school, I’m going to get a job and go back to college.

Woohoo! I’m actually really excited that I want to go back, and sort of proud, considering what a catastrophe it was the first time around.

So, of course once you decided to go to school/ back to school, you start thinking; what am I going to go to school for? I had thought about business, I thought it would make sense. Get a cosmetology license,  get a business degree, own a salon, the end.

Sounds like a perfect plan.

Except for one tiny, small, rather important detail. I have no desire to go to business school, or own a salon. I know that when I am out of school I would love to work at a resort or spa, however;  I would not love to have to run a resort or spa.

So once I finally came to terms with the fact that I will not be going to business school, I started thinking; well, I will get a degree in something, but what are my passions.

I have a fairly good idea of what I want to go to school for, I just don’t want to have to tell my family that I’m going back. It took them a while to get over the fact that I left college, now going back, I’m afraid they’ll see it as a joke.

I really don’t feel like my family takes me seriously, so I don’t really want to share my excitement about going back, because they’ll ruin it for me.

What do I do? Do I go back to school? Do I just stay a cosmetologist?

I really love cosmetology, I do, but it’s not the only thing I love, and I hate that.

Dear You,

“I’m not where I need to be, but thank God I’m not where I used to be.”

I wanted to talk to you guys. I don’t have anything specific to talk about though. So here is my absolutely random blog post.

Dear you,

I hope your day was well. If it wasn’t, I hope you give tomorrow a shot at being a good day.

Do you ever just feel “eh”?

That’s how I feel today. It wasn’t a bad day, not even close, but I just feel “eh”.

(that could just be my enemy, Mr. Depression talking.)

Since I was feeling “eh”, I took myself out for ice cream. Which is a big deal in my mind. Friday night date night, party of one.

I’d keep talking about my ice cream, but I want to tell you guys about school now, so I’m changing the topic.

I love school. I love being there, I love learning, I love almost dozing off to the boring video tutorials we have to watch in class. Everything about the cosmetology craft is amazing to me.

My favorite things to do are mens cutting and blow-dries. Mens cutting is such an art. and Blow drying is the finishing touch to a beautiful new look.

I just love it.

When my ex jumped on a plane, moved to Colorado, and texted me that he didn’t love me anymore. I feel in love with myself. I didn’t really realize that I had put so much effort into loving him that I lost myself in the process.

It took me losing him to find myself.

You know who I also found again? God. Not that I ever lost him. You really can’t lose something when it’s everywhere you look, but I found God again for myself, intimately. How quick do we forget how awesome it is to have God on speed dial.

He rocks.

You rock.

That’s all she wrote.

Love you.

I need a moment.

Flashback to October 17, 2014.

Technically October 18, 2014.

About 12:30am.

Picture this,

crying hysterically in the dorm bathroom on the phone with my friend saying “I can’t do this anymore.”

Picture me so upset that I got sick, and allowed myself to be sick for the following three days.

I never left my dorm. I hated that place, it was a never-ending anxiety attack. I woke up sweating, I was always calling my mother.

I had no one, I couldn’t explain what was happening to me, I just sat there.

It was like I was a living, breathing body, but what made me, “me” was not there anymore.

Isn’t depression and anxiety, fun?

Gosh all those tumblr posts that romanticize depression/anxiety sure have it wrong.

Fun fact, it isn’t beautiful, it isn’t poetic, it’s scary as hell.

Living with depression is complicated and confusing. One second you’re fine, then the next the “black cloud” appears and you almost forget that there are good days.

There are good days though.

Fast forward to January 6, 2015.

I’m still in the dark place, I’m still sad.

But I have these two amazing grandparents who love me. They loved me so much, they took me to the doctor’s and made sure I was prescribed medication for depression.

A week later I got a job, then another one.

A couple of weeks later I started to notice that there were more good days than bad days.

I started to realize that life isn’t meant to be lived in a “dark cloud” it’s meant to be lived with more good days than bad.

Yeah, there are good days, and bad days, but more often than not, they are good days.

Continuing onto May 16, 2015. I move into my first apartment.

It’s cute, and tiny, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

I go to sleep that night calm. I am not worried about the future, I am confident about the future.

I don’t have the same feeling as I did my first night at college. I am calm, happy, optimistic, and sure.

Present day: June 14, 2015

I have cosmetology school orientation tomorrow and I can’t freaking wait. All I want to do is meet new people, and make new best friends, and goof off with them, and be the person that my Creator intended for me to be.

The whole point of this post is to basically say that there is a light at the end of the tunnel. It may start off as a pitch, black, scary tunnel, but there is a light.

So whether you’re in the midst of the darkness, seeing the light, or have been in the light for a while now, just know that God didn’t make us to have more bad days than good. He made us to do His work, and use our talents to honor and glorify Him.

He didn’t make us to be scared, depressed people. He loves us too much for us to be anything less than awesome, and glorifying.

I hope you enjoyed this post.

I wanted to give a special thank you to my grandparents, if it wasn’t for them I wouldn’t be where I am today. I’m not sure I’d be here at all in all honesty. No combination of 26 letters could describe how much I love you, and how grateful I am to have you in my life. Thank you for never once giving up on me, and always encouraging me to follow my dreams.

Have a good night!!

I’ll tell you all about school asap!!

Destiny’s Child has a song for everything.

Cue the Destiny’s Child music:

“The shoes on my feet, I bought it.

The clothes I’m wearing, I bought it.

The rock I’m rockin’, I bought it.

Cuz I depend on me”

Guys. I like the fact that I can take care of myself. I feel like I have a plan and I know what I’m doing.

It’s kinda defeating though when my parents see me as a loser, and probably living on welfare in the near future.

Oh well, it just drives me to prove them so wrong.

I am excited for what the future has to offer.

This time next year I will have my cosmetology license!

I am so excited. I have a very reliable way to pay my rent and bills so I am not super worried. Well, as worried as I’d be if I didn’t have this plan.

I only have…. 16/17 days until I move in! How exciting!

Okay, anyways guys! Guess what I bought today!

*cue drum roll*

I just told my grandpa all about it and I’m sure he is just hiding his excitement. He probably will go out and order his soon.

Look at the beauty!

Screen Shot 2015-04-13 at 7.13.42 PM

So damn pretty.

Okay! I just wanted to show you guys! They are still on pre-sale right now, and super cheap.

Use the code JACATTACK to save some money!

Okay! I will see you guys in a coupe days, I work 12 hours everyday until Friday!

Soo…. see ya soonish! Miss you! Love you!

My Not So Clever Title

It’s just one of those…months I think.

This is not my day, not my week, not my month. I somehow managed to get a first class seat on the struggle bus. Without even trying! Lucky me! 😐

I started my new job! I have two jobs now. I work at a clothing store and a restaurant.

Which means I am tired. And that I miss my bed. Beds are the bomb.

Speaking of bombs… I can’t wait until we bomb the ever-loving shit out of ISIS.

Sorry for the naughty word but its the only good way to express my feelings for that sentence.

Okay. Enough of my random thought train.

Lets talk makeup.

Lets talk about what every one has been talking about lately. The Lime Crime scandal.

Those mischievous little scammers.

So for those of you who don’t know. Lime crime is apparently stealing money from customers and not owning up to it.

That is all the information I really have about this scandal but I would like you all to know that I will not be supporting this company anymore.

I have three of their lipsticks. In all honesty I probably wasn’t going to purchase from them again anyways because I wasn’t impressed. They just didn’t last on my lips.

Seriously though, stealing money from people who were already giving money to you in the first place. What a low blow. It really takes your faith out of humanity.

If you’ve heard anything else about this scandal let me know! I want to know the scoop.

The owner of this company ought to be ashamed of themselves. She takes no responsibility and in fact is actually blaming her customers.

Okay. I am sorry if this post came off as depressing or too complain-y.

Here’s a photo that always makes me smile.

I mean look at it. How can you not smile.

Also because I said that some people make you lose faith in humanity here is a link that’ll help you restore your faith.

I love you!

Have a good night! I’ll talk to you when I can, I promise! ❤ ❤ ❤

My favorite makeup artist in the world is Jaclyn Hill. I’m sure you all know of her by now, she’s basically the Bible of cosmetics, as in she knows all.

Look at her. She’s my soulmate.

The first video I ever watched was her “All about Makeup Brushes” video. Immediately I was hooked. If you haven’t seen this video yet I recommend watching it.

Jaclyn is who introduced me to Sigma Brushes. I love Sigma’s brushes all the hype and talk about their brushes is well worth it.

Except for that annoying f80. I have tried two of the f80 brushes and all they do is shed on me. It’s beyond annoying and I am not impressed.

Does anyone else have this problem?

Did I just get the two flukes? I don’t know guys.

I love all their brushes, but this f80 is not my friend, and I’ve tried countless times to love it.

The prices of these brushes are so reasonable. Way more reasonable than what I paid for It Cosmetics Brushes.

I switched to It Cosmetics foundation brushes after I got fed up with Sigma’s f80 and I love it.

I hate that $40 price though, but I would rather pay for my $40, non shedding brush, than a $20 brush that sheds like a dog.

Have you guys tried Morphe Brushes? I want to so badly. But I really don’t need to purchase any more brushes. I kinda, maybe, sorta, do have a makeup brush buying problem. I can’t help myself.

Some people collect stamps, others collect coins, I collect makeup brushes.

Brushes make me happy. They’re so pretty and fun.

I do recommend buying Sigma brushes in sets though. The two sets that I have from Sigma are:

The Premium Kit and the Make Me Crazy Essential Kit

premium kit Screen Shot 2015-02-25 at 3.26.03 PM

These two kits are my favorite. I use almost all of these brushes except for that awful paint brush.

I guess I am not talented enough to use a paint brush because I am a pro at leaving streaks on my face when I do try to use this brush.

Anyways I hope you guys enjoyed this post.

Please comment back about the sigma f80 questions because I really want to know if I am the only one with this problem.

I love you guys! Have a happy Wednesday.

The first step is admitting you have a problem.

Okay, I’ll be honest. I’m a makeup junkie.

I love to buy clothes for a bargain, it’s the best feeling, makeup on the other hand is a different story.

I love every last bit of makeup, from drugstore to Dior. (I’ve never tried Dior, but when I’m rich someday I’ll be sure to try it.)

I wanted to show you guys some of my favorite makeup palettes I have tried over the years. I love makeup palettes because you get so many different eyeshadows for a good price… most of the time.

The first one is Urban Decay Naked Palette

In this palette you get 12 different colors: (from left to right) Virgin, Sin, Naked, Sidecar, Buck, Half Baked, Smog, Darkhorse, Toasted, Hustle, Creep, and Gun Metal.

Screen Shot 2015-02-24 at 6.17.15 PM Screen Shot 2015-02-24 at 6.22.19 PM

The next one is the Lorac Pro Palette. In this palette you get 16 eyeshadows.

The colors are: White, Cream, Taupe, Lt. Pink, Nude, Champagne, Gold, Lt Bronze, Mauve, Sable, Espresso, Black, Pewter, Garnet, Deep Purple, and Slate.

This palette is the best thing in the whole entire world. It’s $42.00 but I would bay twice that amount.

These colors are so pigmented and so beautiful. I just about die every time I use this palette. It’s the bomb. You need this in your life.

Screen Shot 2015-02-08 at 2.39.04 PM Screen Shot 2015-02-24 at 6.26.26 PM

Sidenote: The Lorac Pro To Go Palette is pretty too, I just never know what to do with it.

Natural At Night Neutral Eyeshadow Palette by TooFaced is also a beautiful palette. It’s tiny, pretty, and pigmented. So traveling with it is super easy.

The palette has nine colors. The first row has Full moon, Nightcap, and Cocoa Star

The second row has Night Light, After Hours, and Eclipse

The third row has Spotlight, Moon Stone, and Night Fever.

Screen Shot 2015-02-24 at 6.37.26 PM

Out of these three palettes I recommend the Lorac Pro Palette. The pigmentation of this palette is out of this world. I should do a whole review on this palette, because it’s my favorite.

I hope you guys enjoyed this post.

I love you!

Thanks for reading! Have a good rest of your day!
